When I Had enough XP, they shipped me to Taverly Docks. I had no armour, no money. Just a few tools. I was weak and hungry. I ran for my life all the way to the GE. I did not stop for anything. When I got to the GE, I chopped the 16 trees and sold the logs. I did that until I had a few thousand gold pieces. Then I bought full bronze armour and a 2H sword and went and paid the cows a visit down South toward Lumbridge.<br />
When I arrived, I started swinging my sword at the cows. They fought back! Thank goodness I was wearing armour. After about 5 swings, the cows finally died. They left behind meat for me to eat, and hides for me to tan and sell.<br />
Let's face it, you cannot survive Gielinor without being a warrior first. The monsters on that planet would consume you in very little time. I suggest you get all melee stats up to at least level 50. You wont be considered such a noob anymore.<br />

Why is it that you approach me with such a degree of confidence?<br />
Do you not stand in awe of my presence?<br />
Fear me I say!<br />
You should tremble, your knees should buckle. You will fall to your knees and grovel before me. You will beg my forgiveness.<br />
Fear me.<br />

If you have no fear for me, then by all means do bring it. My fists are clenched in a ragestorm that has your name on it. Your blood shall fill the rivers and lakes of your community.<br />

<br />
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Noto Sans'; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
There have been conflicting reports on <a class="kblinker" href="https://www.diabeticlive.com/diabetes-101/caffeine-and-diabetes/" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.25s linear; color: #ff8800; outline: none; text-decoration: none; transition: all 0.25s linear;">caffeine</a> and diabetes so we’ll keep the topic live on this article.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Noto Sans'; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
For most people regardless of if they have diabetes or not, part of their morning routine is to sit with a nice cup of coffee to start their day. Coffee as we all know contains caffeine which is a stimulant. This is why coffee wakes so many people up in the morning.</div>
<h2 style="-webkit-transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans'; font-size: 24px; line-height: 30px; margin: 0px 0px 15px; opacity: 1; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; vertical-align: baseline; visibility: visible;">
Caffeine and Diabetes: What we thought</h2>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Noto Sans'; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It was originally thought that caffeine does not affect your blood sugar when it is consumed in moderate amounts. However within the past few years, research has come out showing that caffeine makes diabetes worse. In fact researchers from <a href="http://psychiatry.duke.edu/faculty/details/0099688" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.25s linear; color: #ff8800; outline: none; text-decoration: none; transition: all 0.25s linear;" target="_blank">Duke University Medical Center</a>discovered a strong link between caffeine consumption at mealtimes and higher blood glucose and <a class="kblinker" href="https://www.diabeticlive.com/category/insulin/" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.25s linear; color: #ff8800; outline: none; text-decoration: none; transition: all 0.25s linear;">insulin</a> levels.</div>
<h2 style="-webkit-transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans'; font-size: 24px; line-height: 30px; margin: 0px 0px 15px; opacity: 1; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; vertical-align: baseline; visibility: visible;">
Caffeine and Diabetes Study</h2>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Noto Sans'; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<a href="http://www.dibs.duke.edu/research/profiles/180-james-lane" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.25s linear; color: #ff8800; outline: none; text-decoration: none; transition: all 0.25s linear;" target="_blank">James D. Lane, PHD</a> did a study and discovered this. He took 10 people who had type 2 diabetes and had them stop drinking coffee. On one morning the patients took pill that contained 250 mg caffeine and then another one at lunch. This equals about 2 cups of coffee at each meal. On some mornings they were given a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placebo" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.25s linear; color: #ff8800; outline: none; text-decoration: none; transition: all 0.25s linear;" target="_blank">placebo</a> pill with no caffeine in them. What he saw was that on days where caffeine was consumed, the blood sugar levels were 8% higher than on the days they didn’t have caffeine.</div>
<h2 style="-webkit-transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans'; font-size: 24px; line-height: 30px; margin: 0px 0px 15px; opacity: 1; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; vertical-align: baseline; visibility: visible;">
Additional Caffeine Studies</h2>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Noto Sans'; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Ironically enough, there have been several studies that show that coffee drinkers, especially heavy coffee drinkers have a lower risk of diabetes. This baffled quiet a number of people. How can coffee both protect against diabetes yet also worsen diabetes? You need to remember that it is not the coffee that does it but rather the caffeine in the coffee that is no good if you have diabetes. In fact some studies are showing that there are other components of coffee, excluding caffeine, which may be beneficial in the long term reduction of diabetes risk. For some reason though, the anti-diabetes compound that many scientists feel are in coffee, they do not offset the harmful effects that come with the caffeine included in coffee. There was a study done where caffeine was put into decaf coffee (the decaff coffee has no effect on blood sugar levels after being drank) and there was still the rise in blood sugar levels after it was consumed.</div>
<h2 style="-webkit-transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: 'Open Sans'; font-size: 24px; line-height: 30px; margin: 0px 0px 15px; opacity: 1; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; transition: opacity 0.24s ease-in-out; vertical-align: baseline; visibility: visible;">
What Should Diabetics Do?</h2>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Noto Sans'; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
So what does this mean for you if you suffer from diabetes? Well for starters, you do not have to give up your morning cup of joe, but you should consider switching over to decaf. As said before, coffee itself does have some benefits for diabetics but the risk that comes with the caffeine in regular coffee is not worth the risk. You also need to stop drinking anything that has caffeine in it. This includes many <a class="kblinker" href="https://www.diabeticlive.com/diabetes-101/soft-drinks-and-diabetes/" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.25s linear; color: #ff8800; outline: none; text-decoration: none; transition: all 0.25s linear;">soft drinks</a>. Some diabetics who are able to control their blood sugar levels can tell if they have to high of a level. If you are like this, you probably can continue to drink your regular coffee in moderation. But remember the second you feel your blood sugar level going high, you have to switch to decaf.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #555555; font-family: 'Noto Sans'; font-size: 16px; line-height: 28px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It is a hard thing for many people to give up their caffeine, but in the end it is going to help you better manage your diabetes.</div>

I first hit up the vegetables. Bought salads and green leafy veggies. Yum. All was going well.<br />
<br />
Then it happened.<br />
<br />
I turned down the sugar isle without even realizing it. On the left were all kinds of dessert toppings. Carmel sauce. Whipped cream. Sprinkles. Candy. On the right were every type of ice cream you could think of. My eyes were fixated on the Ben and Jerry's peanut butter cup.<br />
<br />
Just then, a devil popped up onto my left shoulder. It spoke.<br />
<br />
"Ya know Dan," it started, "if you poured half a jar of caramel syrup and topped it off with whipped topping, that ice cream would put you in a state of nirvana."<br />
<br />
Just then, an angel appeared on my right shoulder. It also spoke.<br />
<br />
"Don't listen to him! He wants to kill you. Get out of this aisle and go find yourself some healthy organic food."<br />
<br />
But the devil retorted: "Organic food is expensive! And bland. It will bore you to death.'<br />
<br />
Angel: "To death is where you will be headed if you eat sugar"<br />
Devil: "Lies! And besides, everyone dies eventually. If you eat ice cream tonight, you will not die!"<br />
Angel: "Dan, that ice cream will only make you ----"<br />
<br />
I positioned the tip of my thumb to my middle fingernail. I put it next to the angel and flicked it off my shoulder.<br />
"Tonight we ride!" I shouted as the devil and I put the ice cream, syrup and whipped topping into the grocery cart.<br />

Be sure to take it to a facility where it can be incinerated and the lancets can be sterilized and re-sharpened for re-use.<br />

They are called lancets because they are shaped more like a knife blade that lances you rather than a pin point that pokes you. Here are some microscopic photos of a lancet tip:<br />

Both courses were accredited by the ADA. Both taught me that each and every time I check my glucose level, I must first wash the area that is going to be checked. Then I have to get the meter ready. Then I sterilize the lancet area with an alcohol pad. Then I switch out the old lancet and put in a new one. Then I can finally check<br />
<br />
How many times have I checked with a used lancet on an unwashed skin surface? Countless numbers of times out of sheer laziness.<br />
<br />
If any other diabetics that read this do the same, please comment about it below. Thank you.Relztik1http://www.blogger.com/profile/00403221127681717028noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4985614915092077382.post-22876793697157848132015-05-15T00:34:00.002-07:002015-06-04T21:29:25.241-07:00Meter Comparison<h2>

2 large eggs over easy 6 g carb<br />
1 slice of whole wheat bread, toasted, dry 13 g carb<br />
Coffee, black 0 g carb<br />
Total 19g carb.<br />

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a serious condition that can lead to diabetic <span class="tooltip right" style="-webkit-transform: translateZ(0px); border-bottom-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; cursor: pointer; position: relative; z-index: 1000;">coma</span> (passing out for a long time) or even death.<br />
When your cells don't get the glucose they need for energy, your body begins to burn fat for energy, which produces ketones. Ketones are chemicals that the body creates when it breaks down <span class="tooltip right" style="-webkit-transform: translateZ(0px); border-bottom-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; cursor: pointer; position: relative; z-index: 1000;">fat</span> to use for energy. The body does this when it doesn’t have enough <span class="tooltip right" style="-webkit-transform: translateZ(0px); border-bottom-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; cursor: pointer; position: relative; z-index: 1000;">insulin</span> to use <span class="tooltip right" style="-webkit-transform: translateZ(0px); border-bottom-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; cursor: pointer; position: relative; z-index: 1000;">glucose</span>, the body’s normal source of energy. When ketones build up in the blood, they make it more acidic. They are a warning sign that your diabetes is out of control or that you are getting sick.<br />
<strong>High levels of ketones can poison the body</strong>. When levels get too high, you can develop DKA. DKA may happen to anyone with diabetes, though it is rare in people with type 2.<br />
Treatment for DKA usually takes place in the hospital. But you can help prevent it by learning the warning signs and checking your <span class="tooltip" style="-webkit-transform: translateZ(0px); border-bottom-color: rgb(34, 34, 34); border-bottom-style: dashed; border-bottom-width: 1px; cursor: pointer; position: relative; z-index: 1000;">urine</span> and blood regularly.<br />

What are the Warning Signs of DKA?</h2>
<div style="margin-top: 0.3em;">
DKA usually develops slowly. But when vomiting occurs, this life-threatening condition can develop in a few hours. Early symptoms include the following:</div>
<ul style="margin: -0.875em 0px 1em; padding: 0px;">
<li style="background-color: transparent; background-image: url(http://main.diabetes.org/dorg/images/2013-template/icn-listitem.png); background-position: 0px 50%; background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 2em; padding-left: 0px;">Thirst or a very dry mouth</li>

People with type 2 diabetes are still able to produce insulin at diagnosis. However, the insulin they produce is unable to perform its primary job — helping the body's cells use glucose for energy. Type 2 diabetes accounts for 90 to 95 percent of all diabetes cases in America. These diagnosed cases were once limited to adults, but the number of children diagnosed with type 2 is increasing as sedentary lifestyles and obesity continue to rise.</div>

Monitoring blood sugar levels is needed to avoid hyperglycemic reactions and diabetic health complications. The number of times you need to check your blood sugar each day depends on the cause of your hyperglycemia (such as diabetes) and also your overall health. Your doctor can evaluate your needs and lifestyle to help you determine how often you should test your blood sugar levels. Many people with diabetes test themselves just a couple of times per day.</div>

<div class="entry" style="background-color: #fff7e0; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.65em; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
One of our most stubborn challenges is to control the dawn phenomenon. That’s when our fasting blood glucose readings in the morning are higher than when we went to bed.<span id="more-232" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
The dawn phenomenon is a normal physiological process where certain hormones in our body work to raise blood glucose levels before we wake up, as we wrote in <em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">The New Glucose Revolution: What Makes My Blood Glucose Go Up…And Down?</em> Professor Jennie Brand-Miller of the University of Sydney, Kaye Foster-Powell, and I co-authored that book (Marlowe & Co., first edition 2003, second American edition 2006).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
These so-called counter-regulatory hormones, including glucagon, epinephrine, growth hormone, and cortisol, work against the action of insulin. They stimulate glucose release from the liver and inhibit glucose utilization throughout the body. The result is an increase in blood glucose levels, ensuring a supply of fuel in anticipation of the wakening body’s needs.<br style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />If you take insulin injections, it could be that the effect of insulin you took is waning. Your blood glucose will rise if you didn’t take enough to keep your insulin level up through the night.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
The dawn phenomenon varies from person to person and can even vary from time to time in each of us. That much was clear when our book came out.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
But how to control it was a different story. A couple of years ago here I <a href="http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/17/1388/taming-dawn" style="color: #0060ff; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">wrote</a> about several efforts for “Taming the Dawn Phenomenon.” People have tried everything from eating a green apple at bedtime to high-maize grain to uncooked cornstarch.<br style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" />None of these remedies that I have been able to try ever worked for me. I always thought that the most promising remedy was one that a correspondent named Renee suggested – vinegar capsules.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
“I am still using vinegar tablets (usually <img alt="8)" class="wp-smiley" src="http://www.mendosa.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" /> each night and have used vinegar when tabs are not handy,” Renee just tells me. “I have never added food to that, however. I still do have success in reducing the morning reading as proven by the times when I do not use the vinegar tabs and the reading in the a.m. is usually 20 points higher. I am doing well overall with an A1C of 5.6 for some time now. I have been on Byetta for a year now and have lost 35 pounds.”</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
This makes sense, because several studies in the professional literature clearly <a href="http://mendosa.com/acidic_foods.htm" rel="NOFOLLOW" style="color: #0060ff; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">show</a> that vinegar can reduce our blood glucose levels.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
One of these studies, by Dr. Carol Johnston and two associates in the department of nutrition at Arizona State University in Mesa, Arizona, is particularly intriguing. They <a href="http://care.diabetesjournals.org/cgi/content/full/27/1/281" rel="NOFOLLOW" style="color: #0060ff; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">reported</a> that “Vinegar Improves Insulin Sensitivity to a High-Carbohydrate Meal in Subjects With Insulin Resistance or Type 2 Diabetes” in a 2004 issue of the professional journal <em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Diabetes Care</em>.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
Now, Dr. Johnston and an associate have zeroed in on using vinegar to control the dawn phenomenon. Their study, “Vinegar Ingestion at Bedtime Moderates Waking Glucose Concentrations in Adults With Well-Controlled Type 2 Diabetes, <a href="http://care.diabetesjournals.org/cgi/content/extract/30/11/2814" rel="NOFOLLOW" style="color: #0060ff; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">appears</a> in the November 2007 issue of <em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Diabetes Care</em>.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
They tracked four men and seven women who have type 2 diabetes and were not taking insulin. These people kept 24-hour diet records for three days and measured their fasting blood glucose at 7 a.m. for three consecutive days. They took either 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or water at bedtime with 1 ounce of cheese (8 grams of protein, 1 gram of carbohydrate, and 1.5 grams of fat).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
The result was that when they took the vinegar, they cut their fasting blood glucose by about 5 mg/dl (0.26 mmol/l). That was twice as much as what the placebo group did.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
And when Dr. Johnston and her associate took a closer look at the data, they found that the vinegar treatment was particularly effective for those people who had a typical fasting blood glucose level of more than 130 mg/dl (7.2 mmol/l). Vinegar helped this group reduce their fasting blood glucose by 6 percent compared with a reduction of 0.7 percent in those people who had a typical fasting blood glucose of less than 130 mg/dl (7.2 mmol/l).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
It might not have been just the vinegar that was at work, the authors concluded. Cheese might have a synergestic effect with it. Nobody knows yet, and taking it with the vinegar could be a good idea, especially since it makes the vinegar more palatable.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
But “this is the first report describing a hypoglycemic effect of vinegar apart from mealtime,” they concluded. It is a big step forward in our continuing attempts to control the dawn phenomenon.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">
UPDATE January 9, 2008: Another strategy to control the dawn phenomenon may be to drink a little alcohol with dinner. A study <a href="http://care.diabetesjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/30/12/3011" rel="NOFOLLOW" style="color: #0060ff; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">reported</a> in the December 2007 issue of <em style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Diabetes Care </em>that the fasting plasma glucose of volunteers who drank 13 grams of wine in the three-month trial dropped 32.5 mg/dl compared with those in the control group.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 0px;">

Now even metformin is not working. I am getting older and I am scared it may develop into type 1. I just lost a friend to pancriatic cancer last summer. I made an appointment to talk to my d-team about other options. But time is running out. This is a silent killer. <div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Think of those mornings when you wake up to find your blood glucose looking as if you’ve been up all night eating cookies. What’s up with that? You’d think that not eating for those seven or eight hours would give you lower blood glucose, right?</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Such morning highs are common in people with diabetes, but one of the reasons has a particular name: <strong style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">the dawn phenomenon.</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The dawn phenomenon is a natural rise in blood glucose between 4 and 8 a.m., which happens because of hormonal changes in the body. <strong style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">All people have the “dawn phenomenon,” whether they have diabetes or not.</strong></div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
People without diabetes would never notice it happening, as a normal body’s insulin response adjusts for this. However, because people with diabetes don’t have normal insulin responses, they may see an increase in their fasting blood glucose.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
This is primarily because people with diabetes produce less insulin and more glucagon than they need. The less insulin produced by the pancreas, the more glucagon the pancreas makes as a result. Glucagon, in turn, signals the liver to break down its storage supplies of glycogen into glucose. This is why high fasting blood glucose levels are commonly seen in patients with type 2 diabetes.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<strong style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">The effects of dawn phenomenon vary in each person,</strong> and your blood glucose may be higher on some mornings than on others. But not to worry—there are steps you can take to get those numbers down and start your days more comfortably in your target blood glucose range.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<strong style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Treatment for dawn phenomenon depends on how you treat your diabetes.</strong> If you take insulin, you may be able to adjust your dosing so that peak action occurs closer to the morning rise in your blood glucose. If you have type 2, diabetes pills provide options as well, as you can add metformin to reduce the liver’s glucose production.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Eating dinner earlier in the evening and engaging in some light physical activity afterward, like going for a walk, can also help.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
If you have diabetes, chances are you’ll experience the occasional high morning blood glucose. That’s not something to fuss about too much. But if it happens regularly, then it’s time to call your doctor.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin-bottom: 12px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<strong style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Have you ever experienced the dawn phenomenon? How did you manage it?</strong></div>

Some people develop a life-threatening condition called lactic acidosis while taking metformin. You may be more likely to develop lactic acidosis if you have liver or kidney disease, congestive heart failure, a severe infection, if you are dehydrated, or if you drink large amounts of alcohol. Talk with your doctor about your individual risk.</div>
